Meet the Pilots: HEGLA-Hanic & Fraunhofer IWM

The final chapter of the DiMAT Pilot Series highlights the Pilot 3 collaboration between HEGLA-Hanic GmbH and the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials (IWM).

The pilot 3 focuses on transforming traditional glass manufacturing using advanced digital tools and data-driven strategies.

Some key highlights from this pilot:

– Integration of toolkits like the DiMAT Materials Designer (MD), Materials Processing Simulator (MPS), and Digital Twin for Process Control (DTPC);

– Using real-time data to enhance process efficiency, improve material design, and streamline production workflows;

– Laser Glass Bending Innovation: The laser glass bending process developed with Fraunhofer’s ML4P project uses real-time data and machine learning to predict optimal laser settings. This boosts precision, improves thermal properties, and speeds up production, making glass manufacturing smarter and more efficient;

– Driving Industry 4.0 advancements with predictive machine learning models, ensuring resilience and sustainability in manufacturing.

This interview offers valuable insights into the DiMAT scope and objectives, making it easier for the general public to understand our purpose.
