DiMAT’s Legacy Continues: ICE 2026 Conference in Porto

Follow-up on ICE Conference 2026 with AMS, UPV, SUPSI and AITEX
Even after officially finishing at the beginning of this year, DiMAT is still moving, growing, and making a tangible impact thanks to our dedicated consortium partners.
Last week, DiMAT partners participated in the ICE/IEEE ITMC 2026 Conference, set against the beautiful backdrop of the Alfândega do Porto in Portugal.
Under the conference theme of “Collaborative Innovation for Competitiveness, Sustainability and Resilience,” the DiMAT consortium showcased how our digital modeling and simulation frameworks are driving Europe’s industrial leadership forward.
Showcasing AI-Assisted Design for Advanced Materials
During the “AI for Technology Management” session, our partners delivered a standout paper and presentation titled: “AI-Assisted Design of Polymeric Yarns Produced by Melt Spinning.”
Developed entirely within the DiMAT framework, this research introduces a powerful hybrid physical–data-driven modelling approach. By connecting melt spinning process parameters directly with the final mechanical performance of polymeric yarns, the framework effectively brings advanced simulation out of the lab and into industrial use.
The deep-dive presentation walked the audience through our technological journey, including:
- Advanced Modelling: Utilizing Coarse-Grained Molecular Dynamics (CGMD) and multi-material approaches.
- Process Optimisation: Combining genetic algorithms with an innovative LLM-powered optimisation assistant.
- Real-World Results: Demonstrating high prediction accuracy and practical industrial use cases.
Congradulations to the authors:
- Jesus Oroya Villalta (AMS)
- Javier Gomez (AMS)
- Daniel Araya (AMS)
- Jorge Domenech Pastor (AITEX)
Beyond technical material advancements, DiMAT also contributed to the project management and continuous improvement discourse.
Prof. Luca Canetta (who also chaired the AI session) and Luca Dell’Agostino from SUPSI presented their insightful paper: “From Project Lessons Learned to a Trigger-Based Methodology for Continuous Alignment.”
Drawing directly from the collaborative complexities of the DiMAT project (which involved 18 organizations and 9 digital toolkits), this research provides future European projects with a vital framework for maintaining partner alignment and overcoming data integration challenges.
Strengthening the Consortium Network
It was fantastic to see the DiMAT spirit kept alive through active networking and collaboration on the ground. A special thank you to Miguel Ángel Mateo-Casalí from CIGIP (Universitat Politècnica de València) for representing the project and capturing the great moments alongside our partners from AITEX and AMS.
Thank you to the ICE conference organizers and to everyone who engaged with our team in Porto!
